THE BODY AND SOUL THROUGH ART
I LIVE VICARIOUSLY THROUGH MY ARTWORK:
When I first started, it was to celebrate the different body types of women as we are often told “real women look like (insert stereotype here).” It was also to convey a message of connection between two figures.
Like many artists, whatever may be going on during a period of time, whatever I may personally be feeling, experiencing or what I may have felt through the stories of others became additional sources of inspiration as my work evolved.
EVERY COLOR IS CHOSEN WITH PURPOSE, THE CURVES ARE HANDLED WITH CARE AND THE EMOTION IS TO BE FELT THROUGH EVERY PAINTED STRAND OF HAIR, LIMB AND POSE.
THE UNKNOWN:
While in most cases an X usually symbolizes the unknown, in my work it’s to show that there is more to be said in body language than with words. How the viewer sees the image is however the body language in the artwork made them feel in the moment.
BodyxSoul Art conveys how our emotions are channeled and displayed, and when we were not able to express these feelings with our voices, we used everything else available to us to tell the story of how we felt.
“20/22”
CREATIVITY DURING THE PANDEMIC
AND AN ODE TO ‘PAID IN FULL’
In 2020 when the world seemingly shut down, I locked in on painting this piece inspired by the film "Paid In Full." As time went on, I wasn't feeling as creative as I initially had and placed it to the side, promising myself I'd pick it back up one day. "When I'm Ready" I'd as I'd walk past it on a daily basis, turning into a longer timeframe than intended.
Two years later, I took to it again, completing it in March and falling in love with the finished product.
All of this somehow felt as if it was supposed to happen in the way it had, as I began this piece in 2020, and completed it in 2022. The date of completion was 3-20/22, and 2022 marks the 20th anniversary of the film "Paid in Full."
With all of that in mind, it was only right to name this piece "20/22," as it aligned with everything it represented, all happening in its own timing.
